As part of the pope's year of mercy, Mother Teresa will be canonized in Rome next September, an Italian newspaper reports. Avvenire says Mother Teresa, who spent her life helping the poor and sick in Kolkata, will be elevated to sainthood on Sept. 4, 2016, in Rome. She died in 1997 at the age of 87, and was beatified by John Paul II in 2003, the first step towards sainthood.
